Company Spotlight: Freeport
Concrete's Batching Plant
Freeport
Concrete Ltd's concrete plant manufactures ready mixed concrete that
is a mixture of cement, rock, sand and water. It is sold by the cubic
yard with one cubic yard weighing an average of 3,000 lbs. The concrete
is delivered to the jobsite in a rotating barrel attached to a heavy
truck. Each truck normally carries up to 10 cubic yards per trip.
Concrete can be supplied in varying strengths, depending on the
application. The strength is measured in pounds per square inch (psi) of
pressure which the concrete mix can withstand upon hardening. Typical
home construction will call for a 2,500 psi mix design, while large
multi-storey office buildings, hotels or condominiums can require up to
6,000 psi mix designs in the columns and footings. There are also many
special concrete design mixes that require additives for such
applications as sea walls, chemical holding tanks and underwater beach
restoration obstacles.
