Annual McLean's Town Conch Cracking Championship & Festival
The "Annual McLean's Town Conch Cracking Championship & Festival" will be held on Oct 13 2006.

The highlight of this all-day festival will be the Conch Cracking Contest, to see which contestant extracts the highest number of conchs in record time. The event takes place in the quaint fishing village of McLean's’ Town, in east Grand Bahama Island, beginning at 10:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m.

This contest started in 1972 when the principal of the McLean's Town All Age School, Mr. Jeffrey David Morgan, a British national, organized the first contest to raise funds for the school and the community.

The numerous organized activities, for the enjoyment of both locals and visitors alike, will include:

  • Primary School Conch Debate
  • High School Conch Debate
  • Conch-style Comedy
  • High School Culinary Competition featuring Conch
  • Conch Cracking Demonstrations before the competition – visitors will be encouraged to participate.
  • Conch Cracking Competition – there will be categories for Males, Females, Businesses, Local Constituencies, Media, Hoteliers and Visitors
  • Rake-n-Scrape Music Performance
  • Junkanoo Rush-out
  • Live Entertainment throughout the day
  • Plus, many, many free prizes

There will be free transportation to the Festival from all major hotels.
