Did you know…..about Grand Bahama Island….

One of the first inhabitants of Grand Bahama (around 600 AD) were a branch of the Taino Indians who, in their own tongue, referred to themselves as luko cayo (people of the islands), from which we derive the name “Lucaya”.

There are 6 different types of the curly-tailed lizard; a mature curly-tail would measure up to a foot in length if his tail were unwound.

Eat you vegetables...most conch feed on algae.

The origin of Junakanoo??
Theory 1- a running together of the name John Canoe, a proud African Chief who was brought into slavery in the Caribbean.
Theory 2 – the word stems from the French phrase gens inconnus (the unknown people), unknown because they are disguised by the fanciful masks & outlandish costumes.
Theory 3 - from the French jeunes caneurs the name of young field hands who worked in sugar cane plantations in the Caribbean.

The female crawfish or clawless spiny lobster will lay a cluster of up to 500,000 bright orange colored eggs at one time.

Years ago, some islanders practiced Obeah, a form of witchcraft, which gives the Obeahman magical powers over a person’s enemies, sometimes by going to a graveyard and digging up grave dirt and placing it around the home of the enemy.

There’s sports on TV, dancing at night, Happy Hour twice daily (some things you have to do more than once) all in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. You don’t leave the island until you’ve had a bowl; served w/a miniature johnnycake

Jerk Chicken Potato Boats
Potato boats topped w/jerk chicken strips, cheddar cheese, bacon & sour cream

Dwain’s Buffalo Wings
Jumbo wings marinated in wild local herbs, tossed in an island jerk sauce, served w/a bird pepper & mango remoulade plus a bleu cheese dip…and plenty of napkins

Conch Fritters
Fresh local conch meat seasoned w/island herbs, battered & fried golden brown, served w/a mango & goat pepper dip

Coconut Shrimp
w/a cucumber & black bean salsa, topped w/a Bahamian fruit chutney

Spicy Artichoke & Crab Dip
w/crispy fried tortillas & pita chips…great for sharing…if you have friends

Beer battered, served w/a homemade bleu cheese & cilantro aioli

Garlic Cheese Bread Sticks
Garlic & herb bread sticks baked w/a two-cheese topping, served w/our chunky marinara dipping sauce

Asian Chicken
Marinated in a cilantro ginger soy & chili pepper, served w/mandarin oranges, almonds, bell peppers, crunchy noodles, shredded greens, tossed w/a honey lemon & ginger aioli

Roasted Salmon
Wood roasted wild salmon served on seasonal greens, plum tomatoes, olives & cucumbers, drizzled w/a balsamic & basil oil

Prop Club House
Glazed ham, chopped bacon bits, fresh greens, peppers, tomatoes, onions, olives tossed in a tropical dressing & served in a crunchy tortilla basket

West Coast Chopped
roasted chicken, avocado, egg, tomato, bacon, bleu cheese crumbles, field greens tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette

BBQ-Ranch Chicken
BBQ chicken, avocado, black beans, roasted corn, monterey jack cheese, cucumbers, green onions & romaine lettuce tossed w/our ranch dressing, served in a tortilla basket

Miss Sally’s Tropical Fruit
Named after a famous island pastry chef…papaya, pineapple, mango, fresh berries, mesclun greens, vine ripe tomatoes, roasted nuts w/a yogurt & island citrus dressing

Deli Sandwiches: Corned Beef on Rye, Smoke Turkey on Whole Wheat, Honey Glazed Ham on Sourdough,
Roast Beef on Texas-style White
Served w/lettuce, tomato, onion, pepperoncini on the side…and yes, a pickle

½ deli sandwich w/cup of conch chowder (no substitutions on sandwiches, please)

Blackened Grouper
served open faced on an herb flavored bun w/tamarind mayo & island chutney, fries

Backyard Jerk Burger
Jerk seasoned, half-pound beef patty, w/grilled Eleuthera pineapple on toasted bun, fries…how we barbecue our burgers

Barbecue Bacon Monster Cheeseburger
2 half-pound beef patties, topped w/a tangy BBQ sauce, bacon, jack & cheddar cheeses, fries

Island Club
Oven roasted turkey breast, smoked bacon, avocado, tomato, pepper jack cheese on sliced sour dough bread, cole slaw

Afrika’s Chicken Sandwich
A specialty of Afrika, our chef; herb-crusted breast, topped w/melted swiss, sweet tomato & a pesto spread, served on baked focaccia, fries

Sirloin Steak Sandwich
8 oz. grilled sirloin, topped w/sautéed mushrooms, bermuda onions, melted swiss, served open faced on a french baguette, fries
